Are LEGO safe toys?

We also find that no substance migrates from LEGO elements at any level of care, taking into account that children may put LEGO elements in their mouths during play.

What are LEGO elements made of?

The LEGO system in Play includes thousands of different elements made from a range of different plastic materials. The type of material used to create an element depends on how it is to be used with other elements.

Some elements need to be sturdy and require a certain type of plastic, while others may be more flexible and require a different type of plastic. A window, a lush leaf, an off-road tire, or a good old wall of 2x4s are all different types of plastic.

First we assessā€¦
We screen scientific research and legislation for updates and approve only the safest raw materials for our new elements.

We then test...
We test new LEGO elements and products by subjecting each individual LEGO element to various chemical, physical, electrical, hygienic and flammability safety assessments and tests.

We then makeā€¦
And as we produce new LEGO elements, we continually test for quality and safety, including third-party approval where necessary.

And then we listen...
And communicate with children and parents to get feedback about their play experiences.

We collect lessons and scientific developments from institutions and industry associations. For decades, the LEGO Group has chaired the European (CEN) and international (ISO) toy safety standards committees.

We also play an important role in the ASTM International Toy Safety Committee in the US, the Chinese National Technical Committee of Standardization for Toys and several other national standardization committees, helping to ensure high safety standards for toys.

Product safety is important
We want to offer children the safest possible playing experience. That's why we have a relentless focus on product safety and require our products to pass a series of rigorous internal and external safety tests.

We establish and update safety requirements for toys in every LEGO market. Our products are tested to ensure we meet, and in many cases exceed, the most stringent global toy safety requirements. These include requirements in European, American and global toy safety standards.

And online safety is also important
Play is a crucial way for children to learn and grow. As a brand that's all about play, we want to make sure it's safe, both in the real and digital world. That's why we were the first toy company to partner with UNICEF and set new standards in everything we do.
